Henry Cook “Hank” Drewes of Harwich passed away unexpectedly on December 12, 2012, at Cape Cod Hospital. He leaves his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth (“Bette”), his daughter Carol Drewes , of Providence, his son Terry (Sharon) Drewes, of Illinois, granddaughter Nova Grace Drewes also of Providence, and sister Marilyn Drewes of South Chatham. He also leaves his beloved Golden Retriever, Nana.
Hank was born in Cambridge, MA, on December 25, 1925, the son of Henry and Margaret (Cook) Drewes. He graduated from Mt. St. Charles Academy in Rhode Island, Harvard College Class of 1946, and Suffolk Law School.
He was a member of the U.S. Military serving in Europe during WW II and an active reservist for 22 years. He was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery in action in the European Theater.
Hank was employed for 33 years by the Allstate Insurance Company retiring as Vice-President of Tec-Cor at Allstate. Following that career he was the Executive Director for several years of the Society of Insurance Trainers & Educators.
He was a member of the Massachusetts Bar.He belonged to the Harvard Club of Cape Cod, the Cape Cod Men’s Club, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and he served on the Insurance Committee for the Town of Harwich. He was for many years a member of the Cape Cod Old Timers Softball League. A great lover of music, he regularly volunteered as a pianist at Rosewood Manor. He delivered books to the homebound for Brooks Free Library, and was a lector at Holy Trinity Church.
Visiting hours will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, December 16th at Morris, O’Connor & Blute Funeral Home, Main Street, Harwich Center with a funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 17th at Holy Trinity Church, Route 28, West Harwich. Burial will take place at a later date at the National Cemetery in Bourne.
