John Edward Ferreira of Harwich, MA died peacefully on December 20, 2012 at Epoch S. H. of Harwich after a long illness. Born in Fall River, MA on July 2, 1932, to the late John and Clara (Mello) Ferreira. A graduate of Durfee High School, he received his bachelor and masters degree from Bridgewater University. Mr. Ferreira served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Caperton.
After his service with the Navy, Mr. Ferreira married his beloved wife, Marguerite (Gracia) Ferreira and made their home in Harwich. Mr. Ferreira taught in Harwich Elementary and Middle Schools. He was also principal at Brewster, Marston Mills, and Cotuit Elementary schools. Upon retirement, he worked at the Brooks Free Library of Harwich. A very involved community member, Mr. Ferreira served on the Finance Committee and on the Board of Appeals for the town. A dedicated parishioner of Holy Trinity Church, Mr. Ferreira served as Eucharistic Minister, Lector, CCD teacher and a homebound visitor.
Mr. Ferreira is survived by his brother, Leonard Ferreira of Fall River, MA. His two daughters, Jane E. Ferreira of Stratford, CT and Marguerite M. Juliano and husband Edward of Scituate, MA and two sons, George M. Ferreira of Milton, MA and Adam D. Ferreira of California, MD. He is predeased by his son, John G. Ferreira. Mr. Ferreira loved his grandchildren, Danielle Paul of Henderson Nevada; Lauren, Jake and Rachel Ferreira of California, MD; Aemilia, Guinevere, Yeager, and Delilah Ferreira of Milton, MA; and Rita, David and Michael Juliano of Scituate, MA; his two great-grandchildren, Brody and Bailey Paul of Henderson, Nevada and many nieces & nephews.
Friends my call from 4-7 pm on Friday, Dec. 21 at the Morris, O’Connor & Blute Funeral Home 678 Main St. Harwich Center. A funeral mass to celebrate the life of Mr. Ferreira will be celebrated on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 10 am at Holy Trinity Church.
